A model lost her hair at the age of 13 and hid it with wigs for 16 years, she said. But for the first time this year Laura Mathias decided to remove her wig in public and step into the world as a bald woman.

The 29-year-old from Manningtree, Essex, removed her wig in public for the first time on July 17. Laura was just 13 when her hairdresser first noticed a bald spot on her head, Essex Live reports.

As time passed, more bald spots appeared and Laura was diagnosed with alopecia universales - a condition which causes complete hair loss on your scalp and body.

Because she was a teenager and nobody else she knew had the same condition, Laura felt isolated and ashamed of her hair loss.
