Miranda Hart has revealed she's taking a career break after the death of her beloved dog Peggy. The comedian, 48, announced the passing of her pet on Sunday and detailed the "excruciating sadness" of losing her "loyal, loving best friend" in posts on her social media accounts.

The shih tzu/bichon frise cross puppy, who had been Miranda's companion since 2007, was the inspiration behind her 2016 memoir Peggy and Me.

Miranda announced she's taking a step back from work and social media as she comes to terms with her grief over Peggy's death.

Miranda, who is best known for her roles in her sitcom and BBC's Call the Midwife, posted a series of heartwarming throwback images as she announced the pooch’s passing.
