A miracle baby who was given a five per cent chance of survival after he was born at 23 weeks has battled the odds and celebrated his first birthday.

Terrified mum Leah Rogers feared she was suffering a miscarriage when she went into early labour with the tiny tot last January 5.

She was told baby Jase-James might not survive a single day after he was born weighing just 20oz - about the same as a block of butter or a can of soup, Manchester Evening News reports.

Little Jase-James also suffered from two brain bleeds and a hole in his heart and was rushed to a specialist neonatal intensive care unit where he was put on a life support machine.
