Approximately 230,000 people lost their lives when a tsunami wave hit the coast of Thailand on Boxing Day in 2004. Among those caught up in the natural disaster were T4 presenting duo Miquita Oliver and Simon Amstell. The pair, who have remained close since the series ended, were on holiday together when the disaster unfolded.

Miquita got separated when the massive wave hit and, heartbreakingly, both believed one another to be dead when they couldn't find each other. "It was horrendous, a really earth shattering, terrifying thing," Miquita, 38, has told OK!.

Once the pair found one another they spent the day sitting on top of a hill, just in case another wave should come along. "It was kind of a blessing to be with Simon but also not, because he definitely wanted to make jokes far too early afterwards," she adds.

Miquita says she told Simon: "Dude, we just got out of a natural disaster." Miquita, who now practices Buddhism and describes herself as "a bit of a hippy" says that the experience gave her a new perspective. "It was a surreal experience I’ll always remember and feel very grateful I survived," she says.
