Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer has said that a £15 increase in the BBC licence fee would be "high". Her comments come after reports that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is planning to block a 9% rise in the annual charge.
Ms Frazer, speaking on Times Radio, responded to the Prime Minister's suggestion that the BBC needs to be "realistic" about what people can afford.
She said: "What that means is that we're in a position where people are struggling with the cost of living. And as a Government, we tried very hard to make sure that those costs are low.
