It doesn’t work that way anymore.”American women are now outpacing men in several arenas — including college degrees, home ownership and, in certain cities, salary.

Plus, some are showing less interest than men in having children — and they don’t even need a male partner to get pregnant if they decide to have kids. “They changed the game,” Stanger said of strong women.A record number of 40-year-olds in the US have never been married, and most of these millennials are living alone, according to census data.
