Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

The subject of ITV drama Quiz has been spooked by the level of detail in the show. The 'Coughing Major' himself Charles Ingram is the focus of the show as it tackles the cheating scandal surrounding him and his wife Diana appearing on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Pride & Prejudice actor Matthew Macfadyen portrays Charles, while Fleabag's Sian Clifford plays the role of Diana, both opposite Michael Seen as presenter Chris Tarrant.

The drama has been very careful to get the period details of the production accurate to the times, but some of the attention to detail has surprised even the real Charles Ingram.
