Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

When Charles Ingram won the top prize on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, host Chris Tarrant and the entire audience went wild.

The respected Army Major had achieved what only one person before him had managed - he walked away from the hotseat a millionaire.

But within hours of his historic win he was being accused of cheating and 18 months later he and his wife, Diane, were convicted of procuring the executon of a valuable security by deception.

The Ingrams have always they were innocent of any wrong doing but they were found guilty and handed a suspended sentence and each fined £15,000 and ordered to pay £10,000 towards prosecution costs, which was later increased to £65,000.
