VMAs might be one of Miley Cyrus’s most memorable performances, but the singer credits that moment as when she realised the power of her platform.

The Midnight Sky singer, 27, had faced mixed reactions after performing at the show, in which she infamously twerked on Robin Thicke.Miley began the performance by performing We Can’t Stop with a group of giant bears, before whipping off the teddy leotard to reveal a nude latex two-piece to perform blurred lines with Robin.

She told Mix 104.1’s Karson and Kennedy Talk With Famous People that that was the turning point to her using her platform to help others.

Miley explained: ‘I really woke up to that during the VMAs in 2013, because I realized how much attention could be on me for such a silly.
