When the sketch for Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph‘s Bronx Beat With Betty and Jodi dropped on tonight’s SNL50: The Anniversary Special, it felt like a certain someone was missing, even though that certain someone wasn’t a staple to the sketch.
And then Mike Myers‘ Linda Richman showed up before the three-minute mark in the six-minute-plus sketch on an appropriate cue: “Betty, let’s get out of here, ya know we can go get some coffee or something,” said Rudolph’s Jodi. “Is somebody talkin’ about coffee?” said Myers’ Linda, popping up.
The New York-ish character was based on Myers’ former Jewish mother-in-law. “I thought I’d come out and see the girls, no big whoop,” said Myers’ Richman. “Linda, you look wonderful,” said Poehler’s Betty. “Both of you, you look like butta'” punctuated Myers with Richman’s classic catchphrases, “O, c’mon, look at ya, two big sticks of butta!” Their secret?
Rudolph’s Jodi, says that she keeps her skin fresh with “snail sperm,” while Poehler’s Betty “is drinkin’ six nights a week.” The coffee tawk chatter, which experienced a bit of the sound issues noticeable in other parts of the broadcast, went to the subject of their mutual dear friend Paul Baldwin, who Richman explained, “has advanced stookis in his gazectiveit.
