Mick Schumacher has revealed that he used to avoid getting noticed as the son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher by changing his name.
The German is currently driving for Prema Powerteam in Formula 2, the feeder series directly below F1, and is a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy - the team his father is synonymous with.
While he uses his family name now, Mick climbed the ranks from karting under the name 'Mick Betsch', his mothers maiden name, to avoid a frenzy. "I realized fairly early on that I wanted to be a Formula 1 driver, a champion," Mick Schumacher wrote for Under Armour. "I jumped into go-karts when I was three years old – maybe then it wasn’t a real go-kart yet -, went on to national racing at eight.
