In the late 1990s Michael Owen and David Beckham were two of the biggest stars on the England team. Owen was just 18 when he broke into the nation side, becoming both England's youngest player and youngest goal scorer until Wayne Rooney took the honour five years later.

Regarded as one of the greatest ever Liverpool players, beloved by the Kop, Owen's star was on the rise. Beckham had made his England debut two years before Owen, aged just 21 but had already been playing first team football for Manchester United for four years.

He was a fan favourite with the Red Devils and with his pop star wife and film star good looks, was also a superstar off the pitch.
