When you're trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle by eating better and working out, you'll likely notice the effect it has on your body and your appearance.But it's also important to know how certain exercises can improve your health on the inside, as some are said to work better than others in terms of your brain, memory and blood vessels.That's according to diet guru Michael Mosley, known for popularising the Fast 800 and 5:2 diets, who says that one particular exercise has some "remarkable" health benefits that are difficult to get from other workouts.In the latest episode of Just One Thing, his BBC Sounds Podcast that shares its name with his most recent book, the health expert described how regular swimming can improve your body and brain health, urging people to give it a go.Speaking directly from the pool itself, Michael said: "What I'm doing right now is an exercise which is really good for the body and the brain.

On top of that, it has been also shown to improve things like memory and reaction time. "The good thing about swimming is that it’s good for the body but also for your heart and one of the reasons for that is because it improves the elasticity of your arteries in a way that land based exercises don't."Michael went on to talk about a study carried out at the University of South Carolina, during which 40,000 men aged 20-90 were observed over the course of 13 years.
