Britain’s biggest police force is ordering the UK’s biggest pants. London’s Met has forked out for 5,000 pairs of uniform trousers in sizes XL or even larger for blobby bobbies.

The biggest fit a whopping waistline of 66 inches – for which a healthy person would have to stand 11ft tall. Health campaigners are incredulous at the super-sized slacks.

The National Obesity Forum’s Tam Fry said: “People who join the police or any emergency service should maintain a healthy BMI. “And taxpayers paying their wages have a right to expect that they are fit for the job.” FOI figures uncovered by the Sunday Mirror reveal that in 2019 suppliers sent the Met 4,712 pairs that were at least XL in size.
