The Met Office has issued a yellow alert for rain ahead of 8 days of sunshine and temperatures of up to 26C. A spell of heavy rain may bring surface water flooding and affect travel across Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Scarborough in the north east of England.
There is a small chance that some communities could be cut off by flooded roads, the Met Office says. But the stormy start to the weekend should clear and temperatures start to rise and temperatures could hit 26C on Monday.
Rain will clear tonight as “showers and spells of rain moving across many areas of the UK", according to Meteo Group, before next week’s mini-heatwave sets in.
