dailyrecord.co.ukHollywood legend Meryl Streep has split from husband of 45 years, Don Gummer, following a long-term separation.A statement issued in Page Six on Friday from a spokesperson revealed the star couple "have been separated for more than six years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart".Meryl who boasts a long list of blockbuster credits including Mamma Mia!, Sophie's Choice and the Devil Wears Prada first met Don back in 1978.
Introduced by Streep's brother, the pair married that same year and started their family.Streep and Grummer share four grown children together - Henry Wolfe, 43; Mamie Gummer, 40; Grace Gummer, 37; and Louisa Jacobson, 30 - and also have have five grandchildren, The Mirror reports.In 1985, the couple moved to a lavish private estate in Connecticut worth $1.8 million, then bought a $3million mansion in Brentwood, Los Angeles, in 1990 before later moving back to Connecticut.Not much is known about the couple's relationship as they kept it mostly out of the public eye.
But when asked about her marriage in 2002, she said that the secret behind their long union was: "Goodwill and willingness to bend — and to shut up every once in a while."At the time, in the chat with Vogue, she added: "There’s no road map on how to raise a family: It’s always an enormous negotiation.
But I have a holistic need to work and to have huge ties of love in my life."Meryl's split from Don has shocked the world after she was spotted wearing her wedding ring at the Princesa de Asturias Awards 2023 during the week.
