Everton and Liverpool look to have triumphed in their battle to host the Mersey derby in their own city. Confirmation is expected to be given on Friday, when a special meeting of the city council’s safety committee will meet to discuss plans for football to resume at the stadiums of both clubs.
Crucially, though, the two bodies who effectively make that decision are Merseyside police and the council themselves, and now BOTH have given total support to the derby to be played at Goodison on June 21.
We understand the Chief Constable of the area’s police force Andy Cooke, has offered assurances to football bodies and the council that it is safe to hold matches at Anfield and Goodison, and there will be no crime or disorder issues.
