'Memory man' police worker has caught more than 100 crooks during lockdown

A police worker known as Memory Cop has caught more than 100 crooks during lockdown thanks to his mind-blowing facial recognition skills.

PCSO Andy Pope has now identified more than 2,100 suspects using his remarkable skill. West Midlands Police colleagues say he recognises faces from CCTV footage so grainy that they would not be able to pick out their own mothers.

One collar last year was a man who had been wanted for two years for causing a nuisance on train platforms. Andy, 43, from Redditch, Worchester, regularly patrols in and around transport hubs in Birmingham and the surrounding areas as part of the Safer Travel Partnership team.
