Speaking out in her 2018 memoir Brutally Honest, Mel claimed that she had been be subjected her to physical and verbal abuse during her marriage.
The mum admitted she'd been 'living in a nightmare' pretending her life was perfect when it reality she was hiding her immense shame at staying with Belafonte despite her misery.
Mel, 45, said there were times when she thought Stephen might kill her and other times where she felt she might take her own life.
