NME’s latest star of The Cover, Mei Semones, has compiled an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.The Brooklyn-based musician, who mixes indie-pop and jazz, is on this week’s (March 24) edition of The Cover, a weekly manifestation of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis.

The ‘my cup of tea ~♪♡’ playlist brings together the likes of Bud Powell and John Coltrane, with rock legends like Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins.

Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.In The Cover, Semones discusses the similarities between those two genres, noting they have more in common than most people might assume. “I feel like people think jazz is easy listening or smooth – and there is that type of jazz – but the type I listen to is not necessarily like that,” she explains. “In both types of music, there’s that intensity.”Elsewhere, the 24-year-old also chats about having a famous fan in Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, her desire to be one of music’s true originals and singing in both English and Japanese in her music.
