Meghan Markle has revealed she and Harry were "overwhelmed" by the birth of their second child Lilibet. In an open letter to US Congress the Duchess of Sussex, 40, said that she wanted to write "as a mom" to advocate paid parental leave.

Democrats are debating whether the provision will make it into President Biden's huge social spending bill. She spoke of the "sacred" importance of being able to take her daughter home after her birth in June and devote "any and everything to our kids and to our family".

She wrote in an open letter to Nancy Pelosi, the House Speaker, and Charles Schumer, the Senate majority leader, who are both Democrats: "I'm not an elected official, and I'm not a politician.
