In a time when Christmas can feel overly commercialised, there's one girl working hard to remind us what the festive season is truly about.
Summer Best has been spreading cheer across Greater Manchester for the past four years – and she has no plans to slow down. The nine-year-old, from Wythenshawe, has made a huge impact on the community since starting Summer’s Mission, an initiative which aims to ensure “no child is left behind in Manchester”.
Throughout the year, the Year 5 pupil at St Anthony’s Primary School holds ‘missions’ by running collections and driving fundraisers for those in need.
What started as a small effort to help her local community has blossomed into a Greater Manchester-wide campaign – raising hundreds for those less fortunate than herself.
