Measles cases rising across Greater Manchester as MMR vaccine drive stepped up

A drive to protect children with the MMR vaccine is being stepped up across the north west and Greater Manchester amid rising cases of measles.

The NHS today revealed the launch of vaccine 'catch-up' clinics in GP surgeries, including sessions in the evening and at weekends.

Extra vaccination sessions are also set to be put on in schools in areas where uptake of the vaccine has been lower. The Manchester Evening News reported earlier this month the 'majority' of 24 newly confirmed cases of measles in the region were seen in Greater Manchester, with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) saying it was now 'starting to see clusters of confirmed measles cases in the region'. just click here to give it a go. The NHS said uptake of both doses of the vaccine - which is usually given to children aged one then a second vaccine at around three years and four months - is 85.2 per cent in the north west region, and lower than 80 per cent in some areas.
