Charlie Haughey’s wife, Maureen, declined an invitation to attend an awards ceremony at which her husband and his mistress, Terry Keane, would be star guest, newly released State papers show.
Sean O’Driscoll writes that Mrs Haughey was the only guest marked off the list for the Sunday Independent/Irish Life arts awards in November 1990.
Charlie Haughey, who was then Taoiseach, was listed as attending the black-tie event without his wife and gave the keynote speech.
A civil servant in the taoiseach’s office took Mrs Haughey off the list with the handwritten note: ‘regret’ beside her name.
