Mason Gooding Teases ‘Scream 7’ Return & Calls Neve Campbell The “Godmother Of The Genre”

Mason Gooding is returning to the Scream universe and praised Neve Campbell as the “godmother of the genre.” While promoting his new film Heart Eyes, Gooding teased Scream 7, where he will reprise his role alongside co-star Jasmin Savoy Brown. “The casting of Jasmine Savoy Brown, as it relates to myself, was unknowingly basically being granted a sister,” Gooding said in an interview for Entertainment Tonight. “I check in with her all the time.

I feel like being able to step into a character that has been inundated with so much love, on set and in general, has allowed Jasmine and I to fall into a rhetoric that’s super comfortable for us, whether it’s like talking on a scene or decisions made… Ultimately, I owe to her how lovely she is and how encompassing it is.” Campbell is also reprising her role of Sidney Prescott in the Kevin Williamson-directed film, which Gooding said, “That’s mother right there.” “I feel like that’s the godmother of the genre that we are so lucky to appropriate in Heart Eyes, [which] is the idea of marrying two different tones,” he said. “Obviously, with the over-encompassing one being a more horrific and more high-octane experience that she still to this day has always handled with a level of ease and care and stoicism that’s made each iteration of her character, and I can say all of her work.” Gooding’s Chad Meeks-Martin was introduced in 2022’s Scream V, the fraternal twin of Savoy Brown’s Mindy.
