Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Beloved comedian actor Martin Short has finally won his first SAG Award. Short received the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a comedy series for playing Oliver Putnam, the sometime Broadway director and murder-solving podcast co-host on the Hulu comedy “Only Murders in the Building.” Unfortunately, Short couldn’t attend the ceremony, so presenters Joey King and Jack Quaid accepted on his behalf.
Short’s “Only Murders” costar Steve Martin posted on Feb. 21 that Short contracted COVID at the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special.
Short finally won the prize for “Only Murders” after also landing nominations in the male comedy actor category in 2022 and 2023.
Short was also nominated this year along with the “Only Murders in the Building” cast for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series, alongside Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, Michael Cyril Creighton, Zach Galifianakis, Richard Kind, Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon.
