Celtic legend Martin O'Neill reckons the next Rangers boss will have to launch a massive January recruitment drive if they are to catch Ange Postecoglou's league leaders.

The defending champions are on course for a second consecutive title victory with the Scottish Premiership on hold during the World Cup, with Postecoglou's men holding a nine point advantage over their city rivals.

That lead saw the Rangers board decide to axe Gio van Bronckhorst as they look to appoint a new boss to kick-start their campaign and push Celtic for top spot.

Michael Beale is the frontrunner for the vacant hot seat with Steven Gerrard's former assistant being considered by Rangers, while the club weigh up an approach to QPR.
