Martin Lewis has revealed the new prices of gas and electricity charges due to affect millions of homes and families. The money-saving expert made the announcement in a series of tweets, saying electricity standing charges would be 46.36p per day and 28.49p per day for gas.

It comes after new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, announced major new plans to tackle soaring energy bills all across the UK. Ms Truss said domestic bills would be frozen at £2,500 as part of 'two year energy price guarantee' to alleviate households' financial struggles during the cost of living crisis.

During her announcement in the House of Commons, the PM also stated that the government will wait until an emergency Budget is set out this month.

It means that households will now pay no more than £2,500 a year on their bills for two years starting from October 1. Mr Lewis said the new October 1 price guarantee average direct debit rates have now been announced.
