Martin Lewis has urged many Direct Debit-paying energy customers to phone up their provider and get some cash back. However, only some will have met the right conditions to actually do so, and it all depends on whether they are in debt or in credit with the provider.
Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast, the money-saving expert explained that customers who pay Direct Debit do so through a provider's estimates.
This allows the provider to charge a flat rate throughout the year, despite more energy being used in winter and less in summer.
Martin highlighted that this causes periods of a billpayer either owing their provider money or vice versa.
