The 37-year-old Scot will star as Craig Burke on Vigil, which follows the mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death on board a Trident nuclear submarine.
Line of Duty star Martin shared a picture of him wearing a H.M. Submarine hat while on the set of the show.Alongside the snap was a photo of his grandad, who worked as a submariner during the Second World War.
Martin told his Instagram fans that the comparison left him feeling emotional. He wrote: “On the left we have a guy worried he looks daft in this hat and might take a slagging off his mates, on the right a guy who doesn’t look bothered at all.
