Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1969 or 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. Referred to as the "Songbird Supreme" by Guinness World Records, she is noted for her five-octave vocal range, melismatic singing style, and signature use of the whistle register.
She rose to fame in 1990 after signing to Columbia Records and releasing her eponymous debut album, which topped the U.S. Billboard 200 for eleven consecutive weeks. At the time, she explained that her friend Clarissa Dane mostly handled lead vocals on the album, while Carey was simultaneously recording her 1995 album Daydream.
But now, Carey says that she has found the “lost” version of the album featuring her own lead vocals, and plans to release it some time in the future.
Talking about the album in her memoir, the singer wrote, “I’d bring my little alt-rock song to the band and hum a silly guitar riff.
