More than 1,000 have pledged to take part in an egg-throwing contest at the unveiling of a statue of Margaret Thatcher in her hometown.

The £300,000 10ft plinth of the Iron Lady, funded The Public Memorials Appeal, will be situated on St Peter’s Hill Green in Grantham.

Members of Kesteven District Council's cabinet will be asked today to approve £100,000 for an event to unveil the monument to the late former prime minister.

The bronze statue, created by sculptor Douglas Jennings, will be placed on a 10ft-high plinth to prevent vandalism, making the entire structure over 20ft tall in total. What do you think about this story?
