The 24-year-old started in the opening weekend thrashing of Leeds United, despite one substitute appearance in pre-season, and was named as a substitute at Southampton on Sunday due to a troublesome groin injury.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still sent McTominay on in the 76th minute with the game deadlocked and the Scotland international was omitted from national team coach Steve Clarke's squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Denmark, Austria and Moldova next month.
