Manchester United are ready to reward Edinson Cavani with a new contract. The Uruguayan penned a one-year deal with the Red Devils after joining on a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain.

Cavani has netted key goals in wins against Everton and Southampton to fire United into the title race and the EFL Cup semi finals.

The forward is due to turn 34 in February but United bosses are keen to tie him to Old Trafford to 2022 with a 12-month contract extension to ward off any potential suitors, according to the Daily Star.

Ed Woodward is believed to have spoken to Cavani about extending his stay and both parties are keen to get a deal agreed. Cavani has repaid the faith of United chiefs who sanctioned a £210,000-a-week deal in the summer.
