Erik ten Hag made Harry Kane his priority Manchester United target ahead of the current season before discovering a deal for the striker would prove too problematic to complete, it has been reported.
Kane left Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window, bringing to an end his long association with the Lilywhites, and was strongly linked with moves to both United and Manchester City within the last two years.
United were monitoring Kane ahead of the summer before Rasmus Hojlund was instead recruited and the Danish star is beginning to prove his worth, having scored five goals in his last five Premier League appearances.
It was Bayern Munich who eventually won the race to secure the services of the England international, who has scored 28 goals and registered eight assists in all competitions for his new employers since signing.
