Manchester United have released a statement to acknowledge an Old Trafford failure on Friday night. United welcomed Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday and crashed out of the competition on penalties.

The FA Cup seemed the most realistic avenue for silverware for United this season - Ralf Rangnick's side now just remain in the Champions League - and it was a disappointing night on and off the pitch, as supporters in Old Trafford found out.

Ahead of the game, all the food kiosk payments weren't working. At half-time, the Old Trafford announcer informed fans 'technical problems' meant that no food or drink could be sold at the interval, which was met with 'Glazers out' chants.

United released a statement to acknowledge the failure after the game. They confirmed that all hot and perishable food was given away for free after the match as fans left Old Trafford. "We can confirm that Old Trafford was affected by a power surge shortly before tonight's game," the statement read. "This caused the failure of some stadium systems, including tills in our food and beverage kiosks. "We sincerely regret that disappointment and inconvenience this caused fans. "All remaining hot and perishable food was given away for free to supporters as they left the stadium."
