Manchester United face familiar situation in January transfer window

Manchester United expect they will have to sell or loan players if they are to make any signings in the January transfer window.

United addressed their priority positions in the summer transfer window but sacked former manager Erik ten Hag in October and the midweek defeat at Arsenal saw them plunge to 13th in the Premier League.

New United head coach Ruben Amorim is keeping an open mind about possible mid-season reinforcements but is prioritising a taxing December of seven more fixtures.

United already have a bloated squad, with 29 players listed on the first team section of the club website. Youngsters Dan Gore and Harry Amass have not played for the club this term and Ethan Wheatley emerged for only a five-minute cameo in the League Cup stroll against Leicester City.
