Bryan announced in an emotional message on Instagram on Wednesday that he was having to bring his career to a premature end at the age of 27.
The former defender has been unable to recover from a knee injury that has plagued him for two years and has retired on medical advice.
Bryan was born in Manchester and joined the City academy at age 11, where he would go on to captain the youth side. He spent a decade at the club before joining Sheffield United on a free transfer.
