Getting married and having children can often send your life in a new direction. After Amy and Todd Mullis wed in 2004, they settled on Todd’s pig farm in Earlville, Iowa.
They had three children and although she was a registered nurse, Amy chose to give that up to be a stay-at-home mum. She also worked on her husband’s lucrative farm.
It wasn’t a hardship for Amy, who loved the countryside and any activities outdoors. She enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping – and above all else, she adored her children and a farm was a fun place to grow up.
But despite her seemingly idyllic life, and three kids she was very proud of, Amy was unhappy. Over the years, Mullis had grown controlling and she longed to escape.
