During a trial at Manchester Crown Court, jurors were told that Steven McMyler had been found in the gardens of Wigan Parish Church on the evening of August 6 last year.
Mr McMyler, a joiner from the Marsh Green area, had suffered 'unsurvivable' injuries to his head and was pronounced dead shortly later.
Five people have been charged with his murder and four are currently standing trial, including Lewis Peake, 22, of James Street, Little Lever, and Michael Wilson, 20, of Northfield Close, Kirkby.
