Man detained under mental health act after climbing on scaffolding in city centre prompting large police response

Several police cars and ambulance crews were called to Wilmslow Road at around 7.50pm on Saturday (27 June) night, near Whitworth Park, to reports of a concern for welfare.A police cordon was put in place as special officers were called to the scene to negotiate with the man, before bringing him to safety.The man was later detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for treatment.He was not believed to have been injured, and has since been discharged.
