It won't attract the same sort of attention as the stars they actually do sign but Manchester City have still been making statements with some of the players they won't be pursuing.
While Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland have obviously commanded the interest of the Premier League champions, it is notable that a player such as Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka hasn't.
The England international has so much going for him that should tempt the Blues into keeping tabs on him: his age, his skillset, his versatility, his nationality and his contract situation all fit the profile of the template that Txiki Begiristain uses for most of the club's business wherever possible.
The fact that Saka is not on City's radar for the future says less about Alvarez and Haaland than it does about the faith that the club has in homegrown talent Cole Palmer.
