Manchester City already have seven players injured, or who have withdrawn from international duty - and have now been given a new scare with Rodri.
City lost three games out of three in September and October when Rodri was suspended, winning for the first time without the midfielder when he was rested against Young Boys recently.
However, City will not be happy to see Rodri left out of Spain's Euro 2024 qualifier against Cyprus on Thursday having already lost four players to injury this week.
Nathan Ake, Ederson, Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes have withdrawn from international duty with various injury or fitness issues, joining Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones and Sergio Gomez on the sidelines.
