Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola might have watched the England match through his fingers with so many of his players involved on Tuesday night.
However, in the end, Guardiola pretty much got exactly what he wanted from the win over Italy. John Stones, Kalvin Phillips, Kyle Walker and Phil Foden all started for the Three Lions in their 3-1 victory.
Guardiola will have been pleased to see Stones start the game - his first start since picking up an injury earlier in the season - after the defender had only been fit enough to start on the bench in the final game before the international break against Arsenal. Seeing him get 63 minutes at Wembley will be valuable for Guardiola and City moving forward. For different reasons, the same can be said of Phillips.
