Man admits to killing his gran who was found with multiple stab wounds after house fire

A man with "paranoid schizophrenia" has confessed to killing his grandmother just over a year on from her death. Kyle David Edward Ellis, 25, accepted unlawfully killing his maternal grandmother, Susan Anne Hannaby, 69.The pensioner's body was discovered after a fire at her home on February 11, 2021.

Ellis appeared at Mold Crown Court before Judge Rhys Rowlands on the morning of April 7, North Wales Live reports. At an inquest opening into her death, Home Office pathologist Dr Brian Rodgers gave a provisional cause of death as blunt force head and chest injuries, neck compression and multiple stab wounds.

Today, Ellis formally accepted an alternative charge of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility for the first time.He denied the charge of murder and this was accepted by the courts.Prosecuting counsel Mr Michael Jones QC told the judge how that there have been "extensive" psychiatric reviews conducted on Ellis since his arrest in February 2021.He said the defendant was "profoundly mentally unwell" at the time of the killing, suffering with "paranoid schizophrenia".Ellis remains on remand at Ty Llywelyn in Conwy until his sentencing.
