A 24-year-old man has been arrested after a girl was allegedly raped on a playing field close to a primary school and housing estate.

The incident is alleged to have happened just yards from St Margaret's CE Primary School in Heywood, Greater Manchester, at about 7.45pm on Monday.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape, said Greater Manchester Police. He is in police custody for questioning, a spokesman said.

A forensics tent was set up in a grassy area, next to a bush and trees, in a playing field in the middle of a residential area, the Manchester Evening News reported.
