A 20-year-old man has died while another has been left with serious injuries after a car hit a tree. The incident happened at around 10.45 on Friday, April 14, in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, when an Audi A1 traveled down Cobbs Brow Lane.
The vehicle then proceeded to leave the carriageway and collided with a tree. A man from Parbold was tragically pronounced dead at the scene - his family has been informed and is reportedly being supported by specially-trained officers.
A second man, also 20, from Liverpool, sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital. Sgt Martin Wilcock, of the Lancashire Roads Policing Team, said: "First and foremost our thoughts are with the loved ones of the man who died. "They are being supported by trained officers and we are working extremely hard to establish what occurred to get them answers about what happened.
