There are quite a few changes taking place in Coronation Street, following the departure of Gail Platt on Christmas Day. She is just the first of a number of characters expected to depart Weatherfield in the next few months, but there will also be some new arrivals, and the first of those is Rob Donovan, as played by Marc Baylis.
Rob was last seen in prison, and it is expected that when he returns to the street he will cause problems for his sister Carla (Alison King) and Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers). "He comes back to the show and we think he might be a reformed character who has seen the error of his ways, but whether that’s the case or not, I don’t know!” Kate told The Sun. "He definitely comes back and causes a lot of trouble for Carla and Lisa.
So, it’s a big story for them and a big story for Rob. Lots of twists and turns. It’s a big story for Betsy as well, who is fabulous and will be right at the centre of that." Kate went on to say that fans will learn more about Rob and Carla’s history, and that Rob won’t just be back for a few episodes, but for “a good chunk.” Rob has been in prison for Tina’s murder, and was last seen on screen when he broke out of prison and Tracy Barlow helped keep him hidden before he decided to turn himself in.
Fans were recently surprised when a villain they never thought they would see again made a brief return to Coronation Street.
