Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner spent eight months behind bars so he could keep his former home near Praia da Luz a secret from the Portuguese authorities, it has been reported.
The one-bed cottage where Madeleine vanished from in May 2007, is understood to be one of the properties at the centre of the probe into her disappearance.
But Portuguese state broadcaster RTP claimed today he made no mention of the address after being arrested for diesel theft in April 2006.
