The sister of Madeleine McCann has spoken for the first time about her disappearance at a remembrance vigil. Amelie, now 18, lit a candle for her sister tonight as she joined her parents and well wishers at the vigil that marks the 16th year anniversary of the British toddler's disappearance.
A short prayer service was held in the McCann's home village of Rothley, Leicestershire. According to the Mirror, Amelie said after the service: "It's nice that everyone is here together but it's a sad occasion." Amelie, who is applying to go to university, was pictured for the first time since she was a toddler and gives a glimpse of what her older sibling may now look like as an adult.The teen with long blonde hair was casually dressed in navy leggings, trainers and a cream puffa jacket.
She was was warmly welcomed along with Kate and Gerry by locals and supporters during an informal prayer gathering.However, her twin brother Sean did not attend.Madeleine went missing when she was just three years old.
The tot disappeared from the family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007.Kate's close friend Fiona Payne, one of her "Tapas Seven" pals who was on the fateful holiday in Portugal when three-year-old Maddie vanished, was also among the crowd.
